Revolve Reads - Book Club
Our next book club circle is April 7th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Island Bagel & Bannock
This is an inclusive, thematic book club - that means you can engage in the conversation if you haven't read the book and/or if you haven't been to previous meetings. We are finishing the autobiography of Assata Shakur and discussing the theme of counter-narratives and the tools of resistance. Notes and resources from our first meeting are attached to this email!
We will be choosing our next radical read at this time - if you have a suggestion for our next book we look forward to hearing about it!
There will be small snacks and tea. The space is well ventilated but we recommend masks and if you are sick, please stay home.

The Pigeon's Nest in collaboration with Revolve Cowichan
join us for a free, all experience levels welcome workshop and discussion on digital privacy/security and how to divest from big tech in our personal lives and community organizing hosted by someone working in the digital privacy space. we’ll go over digital privacy/security basics, the current state of big tech’s influence, then identify some key services to divest from (e.g. google search) and discuss how to do so in a way that’s as accessible as possible. we’ll focus on the most high-impact areas of improvement and less on the minutia, taking a “harm reduction” approach throughout. bring your questions!
when: march 30th, 6pm until 8pm or so
where: hybrid event at Island Bagel and Bannock (48 Station St, Duncan) and Zoom (see pigeonsnest.org for an up to date link)

how do we empower each other in an increasingly disempowering world?
building a better world together is an inclusive space to gather to share tangible, impactful skills and knowledge to empower each other, our communities, our families, and our friends to confront the challenges of our time. A space where we no longer have to feel like we’re just trying to stay afloat amidst a relentless torrent of bad news. A space that challenges us to grow while being explicitly shame-free and no experience necessary. A space of compassion, cooperation, and curiosity — where we actively practice living in the world we wish to see.
Consider the challenges we face: Big Tech is proudly enabling the rise of fascism, but what can we do as regular people to resist its insidious influence? The avian flu pandemic looms large and health authorities continue to prioritize profits over people, so how can we be proactive in our own communities to prepare for its rise? If carbon capture and recycling are ineffective and even so-called environmental NGOs are stifling climate action, what can we do to combat the rising threat of climate and biodiversity collapse?
In a world rife with disinformation, knowledge sharing is our greatest power. Join us and let’s empower each other to build a better world together.

With the artists’ consent, the art will be displayed at REVOLVE’s launch party in September (date and located to be announced) with the purpose of imagining a better world together as a community.
This art party will be an inclusive space, welcoming of everyone. We especially welcome youth, elders, newcomers, Black, Brown, Indigenous Peoples, People of Colour, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people. All art skill and experience levels are welcome! Learn more about REVOLVE: www.revolvecowichan.com/about

The food menu will be determined in August, so we will reach out to participants before the event for dietary restrictions and menu choices!
* This event was made possible through a #SimpleGenerosity Neighbourhood Grant
ART PARTY Theme:
The theme of this art party is: Justice, Liberation, Resilience. Some of the questions to explore in your art could be:
What do the words “justice, liberation and resilience” mean to you?
What kind of future would you like to see? 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now?
When you close your eyes and imagine community, what do you see?
Imagine a time when you overcame a struggle. What did that look and feel like?
